The road trip (continued): Kansas City -- not a big fan at all

Here's the previous road trip post.

Our next destination was Kansas City. I remember it to be the most tiring day during our journey. The route was pretty much as straight line like this. It was a 10-hour drive with fields all way long. The more I drive, the more fields I see. The most exciting thing we saw were horses and cows, but we didn't bother taking pictures of them.

After about 6 hours, I couldn't take it any more. I was so sleepy that even those energy shots couldn't keep me awake. We decided to stop at a gas station for an hour nap.

After regaining some energy (the right way), we moved on. And yet more fields were to come. We decided to have dinner before it got dark. We ended up at a sushi restaurant (again). The owner of the restaurant looked like a yakuza. We wanted to live that night so we didn't complain about the slow food. We hastily finished and left.

An hour later, we reached Kansas City. I made some wrong turns because of the stupid GPS -- yeah, always blame the gadget -- and got into some REALLY scary parts of the city, with people who looked like drug dealers walking around in the shadows. At that point our adrenaline were so highhhh, I tells ya!

Finally, we reached our hotel: Ameristar Casino. Yes, you read it right, casino. We didn't even bother stopping to look at the casino at all. There were so few people, plus we were still scared from the ride through downtown.

The receptionist welcomed us with a surprise: "I see that you booked a smoking room?"

Nope, that's not right. We were positive of booking a non-smoking room. Dear is allergic to smoke.

The manager came out to handle the situation. Either they'll have the smoking room sprayed and we get free breakfast, or we get to move to another hotel.

We chose to stay because we didn't want to experience Kansas City any more.

The next day, Dear's face was slightly swollen and she had nausea.

Turtle and I tried to have fun.

And we had our "free" breakfast.

We ordered so much, about $100 worth. When we checked out, the receptionist tried to charge us. Why wasn't I surprised? We explained the situation though and we finally got away with it!

Before we left the hotel, I decided to go to the toilet one last time, while having Dear and Turtle go ahead to the car.

While my body was getting rid of its waste, Dear called me with a very worried voice. There was a black woman who approached them. She warned Dear and Turtle that she has been mugged in that parking lot before so be careful. I didn't bother cleaning up well before I rushed to the car. We left and promised ourselves we won't come back to this city again!

Next stop, St. Louis.
